FAQs

Who can use A Second Hand?

ANYONE can! Everyone could and should take advantage of this. The resources being donated would simply go bad or be discarded, so if you can make use of the product, please do so! Everything is 100% free.

How can I get more involved?

You can volunteer a number of ways! You can donate an item or volunteer to deliver/pick up items, manage our social media, or help with community outreach. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Is this safe?

Yes! During our deliveries and pickups, everything will be contactless. We will sanitize all items before delivery and notify the recipient upon arrived via text message or email. You will not directly meet the person to whom you are donating or vice versa. There will always be a liason or "middle man" in order to ensure as much safety as possible. Only the delivery team and trusted personnel will have access to home addresses or phone numbers.

Where to place items during a pickup?

If you are donating something, please make sure that it is visible and in an easily accessible and disclosed place. Our contactless delivery policy is to ensure the least amount of risk involved as possible, both in terms of COVID-19 and other instances. In front of a door, garage, or mailbox is an excellent place!

What is the point of this versus donating to Philabundance or a local food pantry?

The goal of this is to create a network of members in the Cheltenham community who may have an excess of something or food/items they would want to give away instead of discarding. This is particularly useful for saving money and providing accessibility to things such as masks and granola bars, while also limiting waste and promoting sustainability.

What is the point of the Opened Package Policy?

Say that you have oatmeal or tea, for example, that you and nobody in your house really likes; you cannot return that to the supermarket because you already opened the box, so the only real solution is either to trash it or give it away. This platform provides a network between members of the community that allows for sharing of great resources that may have been discarded otherwise, while also helping an member of the community.
